“Winter Nocturne”

This season marks the fourth year of the Aiken Civic Orchestra’s collaboration with the annual Winter Nocturne at USC Aiken for the benefit of the music department. This season’s artist, Petronel Malan, will engage with area students through masterclasses, outreach and performance on February 6, The Aiken Civic Orchestra will accompany Malan on Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F.
Petronel brings what New York reviewer Harris Goldsmith calls a “Formidable…dizzying…magical” style to her performances. She has received 3 nominations for Grammy awards, awarded the ”American Prize of Excellence in the Arts” for her album “Transfigured Tchaikovsky” and won five gold medals at international piano competitions. Petronel maintains a full performance schedule as recitalist, orchestral soloist and chamber musician in major venues throughout the world. She has completed 2 graduate degrees at the University of North Texas and continues to reside in the U.S., while maintaining strong ties to her Native South Africa.
