Aiken High School Auditorium

Featuring music by Camille Saint-Saëns, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and Alexander Borodin, this concert brings a variety of styles to the listener, including the percussion-driven energetic Danse Bacchanale from Saint-Saëns’ opera, Samson and Dalila. The Polovtsian Dances from Borodin’s Opera Prince Igor feature energetic winds and percussion to create a sparkling, rhythm-driven dance using bright tone colors and graceful melodies to create an atmosphere of celebration and enthusiasm! One of Rimsky-Korsakov’s most well-known and exotic pieces, Scheherazade is based on the legendary Arabic collection of fairy tales The Thousand and One Nights, a compilation of Middle Eastern and Indian folk tales from various sources that were compiled around a core story over many years. This work highlights some of the most beautiful melodies ever composed for symphony orchestra.
