“Beethoven 5”

Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 7:00 pm

Maxwell Performing Arts Theater in Augusta, GA

$20 general admission – Students free  Click here for tickets

At this cultural heart of the AU Campus, this concert features a side-by-side experience for Augusta University music students sitting with the professional musicians of the Aiken Civic Orchestra.  As a testament to the orchestra’s outreach and engagement with students, this program will feature winners as soloists with the orchestra from both the AU and ACO Concerto Competitions.

The cornerstone of the concert is Beethoven’s immortal Symphony No. 5 in C minor.  Another delightful feature will be the Carmen Fantasy by Sarasate with Dr. Pawel Kozak and Director of the AU Orchestra on the solo violin.

This concert supports young artists, highlights a local performer, and brings Beethoven’s powerful and popular 5th Symphony to life. The 5th Symphony contains a memorable ‘fate’ motif, delves into emotional depth and universality, and includes what were revolutionary musical innovations at Beethoven’s time. It is a pivotal masterwork in the evolution of classical music, bridging the gap between the classical and romantic eras, and not to be missed!

Aiken Civic Orchestra is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, a project funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
